About us — NCK
The National Center for Culture (NCK — Narodowe Centrum Kultury) has been functioning as an independent unit since March 15th 2006. Earlier, the NCK was part of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute (IAM — Instytut Adama Mickiewicza). Minister of Culture and Nation Heritage Kazimierz Ujazdowski decided to divide this institution into two separate government cultural organizations: the Adam Mickiewicz institue and the National Center for Culture.
This decision was based upon the fact that the IAM was created to be an institution aimed at foreign countries, where it was to popularize Polish culture, history, national heritage, and the Polish language, through projects, cultural events and promotional materials. Thus the missions of the two united institutions were at odds with each other.
The National Center for Culture popularizes national culture, promotes Polish national heritage, shapes interest in culture and art, and conducts research in the field of culture and national heritage in cooperation with local authorities.
Our website presents the activities of the NCK — operational programs, scholarships, internships, and training programs in EU fund applications for institutions and cultural animators.
